wifi slow to wake on macbook pro 2012

Since a while (which "seems" to coincide with installing Microsoft Office 2016 - in replacement of 2011....), my MBP (mid-2012) is generally slower to wake up but the longest is the wifi which takes up to a minute to appear functional.

Sometimes i feel it's faster to cold boot!

I had replaced the ssd about 1.5 year ago and raised ram from 8gb to 16gb. Cpu is i7.

Am i due for a fresh osx reinstall ?

Anyone noticed something like this (especially after installing Office ?.... ) Seems unlikely, but just in case...

It may be an easy fix.

By default, the system remembers (saves) all old networks you've joined. Sometimes the computer will try to connect to an out-of-range network while polling the saved networks. When I had this happen with my first Mac laptop, I found it had remembered a massive number of networks during my travels. The problem grew so bad that the MacBook Pro could not get out of sleep at all without rebooting. A check of system.log showed the computer was stuck looking for the network at a lodge where I'd stayed weeks before and miles away.

Easy fix well worth a try:

1) System Preferences > Network. Select "Wifi" from the resulting window.

2) In the lower right corner of that window, click the "Advanced..." button. Multiple tabs will open in the new window but the one you want is on top "WiFi."

3) The pane in the window will show all networks you have joined:

My approach--delete any network to which you do not need to join more than weekly. Do so by selecting an unneeded network's name and then clicking the "minus" button to remove it (red arrow in above screenshot). Reboot to clear out any deadwood and see if things are better.

NOTE: The same window allows you to drag networks to give a priority order. I have only one far-away network saved because entering its password every time approaching my pain tolerance. I drag it to the bottom of the list where it remains available for the 3-4 time a year I use that network without slowing the computer's finding more commonly use access points.

At the end of every trip I repeat this drill, only retaining those networks I need daily to weekly. The main emphasis should be on not letting unneeded networks pile up.

If this does not help, post back and we can try something else.
