High Sierra: Folder icons : Images used as icon...

Hi everybody,

After upgrading to High Sierra on my MacBook Pro, I have problems with folder icon that I used to make on Sierra very easily by dragging an image and dropping onto folder icon when Get info window is opened. Now the image is somewhat contracted if shown at all. Sometimes I just get the general icon for .jpeg or .png file. On Sierra, everything was fine, the image kept its ratio and the icon was the same as the image. That's what I loved. Does anyone else have this issue or knows something about it?

Thank you!

To make a picture into a desktop icon for your drive or other folder, open the photo in a program like Preview, select it, or some portion of it and then copy - command V. Select the file or drive, get information - command v. Now paste. In some cases you may have to log out and back in to see the picture as your icon.

For the best results, make sure the photo or selection is a square. The photo will be compressed to fit and fitting a rectangle into a square will result in a picture that is less than satisfactory.

Dwb, thanks for your answer, I never knew I can do this with Preview. It's very handy, but why a square? I see this as a bit devolutionary, don't you think? Like I said, on Sierra everything worked fine with any picture ratio.

I made a post in High Sierra discussions. I am sorry I put it here, this is my first post, and I totally missed the category.
