MacBook Air Shutting Down Randomly

Recently, my MacBook Air early 2015 13" has started to randomly shut down when not connected to power. I didn't use it for a week and just left it in my backpack, it was on but closed. Before that week it was running fine, but after that week it started the shutdowns. They seem to be very random. Sometimes it runs for 5 hours and sometimes for 5 minutes before shutting down. I've reset the SMC and the PRAM, repaired permissions on disk utility, and reinstalled Yosemite OS to make sure that those weren't the issue and it continues to happen. I ran diagnostics and it says that the battery requires service. Should I just buy an aftermarket battery and replace my current one? I'd prefer to not bring it in to a store because I'm a college student and money can be tight. I'd appreciate any response.

Your battery requires replacing. I would take it to your local Apple retailer and arrange to have the battery replaced. If you DIY, then know that should you ever bring it to Apple for service you will be denied service. Visit OWC to see if there is a replacement battery for your model. If there is then get the kit with tools and instructions. You will need to remove the back of the case.
