MacBook Pro 13.3" Retina Logic Board Failure?
I purchased my MacBook Pro 13.3" Retina display brand new in early 2014 before heading off to college. This being the most expensive item I have ever owned I always made sure to take the utmost care when using and handling it. About a week ago I went to turn it on and a prohibitory symbol appeared on the screen (A white circle with a slash) and after that it went completely dead. I took it to a reputable repair store (MicroCenter) and they told me it was a logic board failure and would cost close to $700 to fix. Has anyone else experienced this same logic board failure issue?
I am extremely disappointed with Apple since I thought of them as the best of the best with "state-of-the-art" advanced technology. I expected this device to last until the end of my college career at the very minimum and the fact that it has broken within under two years is absolutely unacceptable. I did some googling and saw a lawsuit regarding logic board failures in 15'' MacBooks from 2011-13 and that Apple had issued a complementary repair program. I am hoping they will do the same with my case.
Again, anyone else have their logic board randomly fail?
Thanks in advance.

So sorry to hear that . I suggest you to have a look at the MacBook Pro forums to look for cases similar to yours and check if this is a widespread issue or if you just had bad luck. Obviously there will not be a lawsuit if this problem is reduced to a few users, but there's a chance if it is showed to be a design failure.
Talking about your problem, it looks more like a flash storage issue rather than a logic board failure, but Retina MacBooks Pro have most of their parts soldered to the logic board, so any repair is quite expensive. Finally, if you live in an European country, remember that your Mac has got a 2-year warranty by law, so you may still be eligible for a free repair.
Yes David, even I have same issue with my MacBook Pro retina 2014 model. I kept my Mac in sleep mode and when I started after couple of days, it didn't start up at all. I showed it to Apple authorised store and they said that my Mac has an issue with logic board and it need to be replaced.
Also, when Apple Service guy opened my MacBook they said some of my components are not soldered and they found it strange.
I don't understand how something gets wrong with logic board when I didn't used my Mac at all ???
PLease help..
I have a MacBook Pro 13" Retina display (early 2015) I purchased Feb 25th, 2016. The one year warranty expired 2 months ago. The computer had never been damaged (outer case or water). The laptop was having intermittent issues with not turning on but if I disconnect the power cord, close the top and reopened it and then press start and hold it down for a couple seconds and it would restart. That ended May 1st the computer died. I called apple customer support, I tried all the restarts they told me over the phone but it was dead. The got me an appointment with a Genius Bar that afternoon. They tried everything and then took it to the back and opened the back and tried manual restarts .... it was dead! They told me the flat rate estimate was $475 + tax. I was in disbelief. I ask if the could do anything to help me since it was just out of warranty, I been help my father through his cancer treatments and trying to find a job it this area to be close to them. They told my they could not help and they do not have the authority to make that call. I went ahead and signed the estimate since they had 15 minutes to get it packed up and sent out. They never diagnosed the problem before sending it out . He told me that the" depot" would contact me and let me know what the issue is. I received a call from the Apple Store today and the computer's logic's board was bad and they replaced it without calling me And sent it back to the store. I contacted apple customer service and spoke to Sr. Advisor who felt they may be able to help but he would to contact the store and speak to them. He told me the store refused. I see this is a common problem after reading on the internet. I am disappointed in Apple. I bought this computer because MacBook Pro's were the best and you pay for that quality. Clearly I was mistaking. So disappointed.
I have a Macbook Pro retina 13" mid-2014 that I purchased Dec 2014. Since it was expensive, I have always handled it with care. One day, I opened it and...nothing. Wouldn't turn on, dead. Took it to an Apple Store, they tried performing SMC reset twice. No change. So they suggested a MagSafe board replacement. I paid $129.11 for this replacement which solved nothing. They came back and said I could pay to have the logic board replaced. It doesn't sit well with me that this computer failed after 2.5 years of light use so I'm doing some research. Seems like Apple sold me a lemon.
Sad to say, same here.
Late 2015 MacBook Pro, 13 inch retina. Purchased in Jan 2016, 1 year US warranty, logic board failure 1.5 years after purchase in July 2017.
My problem came out of nowhere. I tried to login as a guest user, the fan began running high for no reason, performance rapidly deceased, ambient lighting began to malfunction, and the authorized service rep diagnosed it as a logic board that needed replacement. The computer is unusable now due to speed.
I had tried SMC resets, NVRAM resets, an OS reinstall (sierra), and everything else I could think of as a non-expert.
The entire reason I purchased this MacBook was to replace a 2011 MacBook Air that had a failed logic board within a week of upgrading to what at the time was already a multiple months mature OS sierra.
I love iMessage and a few other features, but I am done. Fool me twice apple, but not a third time. I am very disappointed in these laptops, and plan on swapping to the new surface laptop. I think I would be foolish to spend another $1,500 for a product that can fail this quickly.
I got my mac pro in late 2014 and it went dead on me last month. No indications.... nothing. Just would not boot up one day. Cost me 500 $ to fix it. I have an old Dell from 2013 which cost me about $500 to begin with and it working fine.
I expected more from apple. Disappointed
