I cracked my 15" retina display

I cracked my 15" retina MacBook Pro when I was closing my screen with a USB stick with sharp edge sandwiched in between.

Now I have a huge vertical strip on the screen and later it developed a horizontal strip on the bottom. Has anyone had similar experience? How much did it cost for you to repair at Genius Bar?

Most unfortunate.  No one here can give you an exact quote so you will have to have the technician examine it.  To get an approximation, look at the prices on the iFixit.com web site for a replacement display.  It will be an expensive repair.

I believe replacement screens start at $600 but you will need to contact your local Apple Repaire for an exact quote in your country.

Probably not. The terms of AppleCare state:

"4. What is not Covered?

......

ii) Damage caused by (a) a product that is not the Covered Equipment (b) accident, abuse, misuse, liquid contact, fire, earthquake or other external cause,"

sad news same thing happen to me you will be stuck repairing the screen which is in the $600 range. AppleCare is not covering for that (highly annoyed about that) you would think paying that type of money that it would cover for that as well. Going to get it repaired today will let you know the final cost once done. Hope I don't freak out in the store if it higher than that. Also you can look into getting somone local to do it not going to be much cheaper.

At the very least and especially since you have AppleCare, you should be able to  obtain a "Depot Repair" which is currently a flat rated $310 (Used to be $300.). Be aware that some techs and even managers aren't aware of this service.

Dunno, I've always dealt with the Apple store for Depot Repairs.
