How well does music shuffle work on apple watch?

I am constantly aware that shuffle in the Music app on my iPhone and iPad is iffy at best - repeating songs because the app does not remember what it already played.

How well does Shuffle work in the Music app on the Apple Watch? I recently purchased a Space Grey Apple Watch (Series 2) to use when exercising and decided since I have Bluetooth headphones, I would put some songs on my Watch (Yes - syncing is VERY slow). But when playing a playlist (around 50 songs) the Watch, even if it is not turned OFF or Reset, can't seem to remember where on the playlist it left off. So I put a larger playlist on the Watch (100 songs) and was curious about other's experiences with using Shuffle instead of just trying to play the playlist straight through.

It used to work fairly well but as of a few watchOS updates ago (I think it was three) my shuffle experience has also been iffy. As in, fairly often the list stops shuffling. For example, I'll start a "shuffle all" on a playlist from the watch and at some point (always fairly early, like 2 or 3 songs in) the playlist will settle into just playing straight through as listed (alphabetical by artist). Frustrating because I only play from the watch while out on a run.
