how do i reset my admin password without losing...

i have just got a macbook pro from kijiji and the seller and i both don't know the admin password. how do i reset it without losing evrything?

Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

without losing all of my data

How did your data get on a computer that you cannot use without a password? 

Is the computer stolen?    Asking because the seller doesn't know the password.

the programs were put on there when i got it and i can put on documents because it logs in automatically. the only thing i cant do is instal things or change the settings.

will this delete the programs and everything on the macbook?
