apple i.d. not being updated

When I purchased my macbook I had a work email I used as my Apple I.D.

I no longer work there.  I can sign in to, say, iTunes with my new, correct email and password, but

my computer thinks the old, original email is my i.d.

So when I want to install an update, the computer shows my original email address and asks

for the password.

I don't know how to change this.

You cannot move purchases from one Apple ID to another. Your old ID and password remain valid even if you no longer have access to the email account, although it does make recovering access to the account in the event of a forgotten password more complicated. Did you change the email address associated with the old Apple ID, or create a new Apple ID?

See Change your Apple ID - Apple Support and What to do after you change your Apple ID email address or password - Apple Support.

I seem to be unable to change the current password, so I'm not sure.

I can sign in to Apple with the login/p.word I want, but my computer has saved

the old user I.D, and since I don't have access to that email, I can't recover the password.

Does this make any sense?

Fortunately for me I haven't been through the process, but it means I don't know all the potential pitfalls and workarounds. I suggest you talk directly to Apple Support and see if they can help.
