MacBook Air Ransomware

Hello,

My wife's macbook air got hit with a ransomware attack.  It asked for a pin and demanded 50 bitcoins to unlock.  Any advice on how to restore?  She recently uploaded pictures of our firstborn's birth and did not have them backed up, any idea if we can save those files?

First off, don't pay it. You wont get anything. If your decvice is locked call Apple

1-800-MY-APPLE

to make an appointment to see an Apple Specialist and you may be asked to prove ownership of the device in the form of a receipt from an Authorized Apple Retailer.

Hopefully you made a backup before this happened; if you didn't there is absolutely no guarantee you will ever see any of that data ever again.

You may wish to change your Apple ID log/pass with a password you do not use for any other on line service. If you use your same log/pass combo with another service (e.g. Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and that service is "hacked" then the perpetrators have to only try typing this same combo in any other service to get into your other accounts.
