How do i know if unsolicited phone calls from applecare are legitimate?

If they are unsolicited, they aren't legitimate. AppleCare never makes an unsolicited call to anyone.

They do. Sometime they call you back if you post on a forum (or even here) with the same email as your Apple ID or to keep you updated about a case. I got Tim Cook's office on the phone like this once (about a Touch Bar bug). But it's clear that if you haven't posted anything or contacted Apple recently this is most likely going to be a scam. The best is probably to double-check who's calling (Apple Ireland, ...).

Always verify the caller's identify before you provide any personal information. If you get an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Apple, hang up and contact us directly.
