Stable ethernet connection to iPad

For certain reasons I'd prefer to use the iPad wired to the router rather than by wifi. I can do it using an Ethernet to USB adapter followed by an Apple camera to Lightning adapter to attach to the iPad. However this is unstable. Power down the iPad and on power up the Ethernet connection is lost. Can only be got back by unplugging the cable, resetting the iPad and plugging the Ethernet train in again (only for it to fail again after shut down). Has anyone found how to set up a stable wired connection?

While I know people report it works, it’s never going to be stable. It’s not a supported method of connection.  Lifehacker and numerous other sites are testimonials to how unstable and unreliable a connection it typically is.
