Spilled liquid on MBP with swollen battery, help?

I own a Mid-2012 13" MacBook Pro. Over the past year the battery has gotten so swollen that the lower panel is busted open and the trackpad formed big cracks in it last week. Due to money issues I never got around to repairing or replacing it, so I've still been using it daily for work at home.

So after 5 years I somehow finally managed to knock a glass of beer onto the desk where my running MBP was. The second I noticed it was sitting in a puddle of beer I unplugged, force shut down the computer, placed it 'A' shape on a soft surface and dried it with paper towel. MBP then suddenly boots itself up and I force shut it down again. Not much liquid came out but there was a couple drops on the back of the hinge and through to a couple keys on the keyboard. It's been sitting upside down in an air conditioned room for 2 days now.

This was definitely a wake up call that I need to get myself a new machine asap, but I'll still need to transfer some important documents that haven't been backed up recently.

Considering the swollen battery and possibility that it came in contact with liquid, how dangerous is it to try turning it on again?
