In addition to what Skydiver 119 says, I would also check the credit card to see if they have any purchase protections added to it, such as loss, theft, extended warranty, etc. That way, if something were to happen to the phone if you purchased it with the card, it was protected. If you purchase the Gift Card, then none of that would apply, since you did not actually purchase the phone with the credit card. Many cards provide this type of additional protection services for major purchases.
