icloud/appleid for windows connection issues fo...

iTunes would crash on launch with internet connected, but open fine offline.  I installed icloud and sure enough it would not connect with a verification server error.  My apple devices are not having issues.  I could login via web browser on any windows OS I have from any browser to icloud.com, but when you go to manage apple ID any windows OS browser would be unable to load page.  Chrome reports connection reset.  Firefox and IE just 'page can't be displayed'.  It's https://appleid.apple.com that is not working for windows clients.  After hours of testing different things I realized that all the Windows OSes I had worked fine when using an alternative internet connection with ISP assigned DNS.  Sure enough if I changed to open DNS or google DNS then https://appleid.apple.com would no longer work in any windows browser.   I went back to the original internet connection (Comcast), and using google DNS appleid.apple.com would not work in browser, and icloud windows app would not login. 

Edited my hosts file and added this line:

17.111.105.250 appleid.apple.com

Everything works.  ITunes also now doesn't crash when opened with internet connected.  https://appleid.apple.com works in all browsers.   iCloud windows app logs in.

Now if I remove the hosts line and flushdns.  It's starts using the Google DNS response to appleid.apple.com which is usually one of these 2...

Once again, nothing works.  You can login to https://www.icloud.com, but trying to manage appleid shows broken.

I'm guessing this is anycast.  I tested OpenDNS and it provides the same addresses for appleid.apple.com as google DNS did for me.  If I use GoogleDNS or OpenDNS for my network then apple stuff has issues in windows only.

Maybe Apple is having server or network issues even though all there status page is green???  How can this get fixed?  I don't want to use ISP provided DNS, with Comcast it's basically malware.
