New Mail e

I recently started to use my iCloud email on my Mail application on Macbook (I've never used the webmail version.)

When ever I do ⌘N or file > new message, the new e-mail always shows in the drafts on iCloud, not "On My Mac."

When I'm not sending an email immediately, when my Macbook isn't connected to the internet, I keep getting connection error messages in the mailboxes list.

I understand why there happening, but's being very annoying in just saving an ongoing draft. Even when physically dragging the draft out the ICloud draft folder and into the "On My Mac" drafts folder, it just creates a duplicate in iCloud! Is there a way to make new messages start off "on my Mac" as the default?

Any tips would be gratefully received. Thanks.
