Itunes turning on shuffle without permission

For some reason my Itunes keeps shuffling my songs when I have not requested it.

I am unsure if it is just on reboot or just any time I open the program.

I go to controls and it is checked "by song". I uncheck it and it is ok till next time

version of Itunes is 10.6.3.25. Windows vista.

Any ideas on what to do about it?

So just to clarify, songs are being shuffled as you listen to them from your iTunes music library on your PC correct? Is the Shuffle icon highlighed in the lower left hand corner of the iTunes window? It looks like to arrows crossing over each other to make somewhat of an X shape.

That is correct. I just checked after reboot and shuffle/by song is now checked again. It is aparently happening after reboot.

That is wrong. I just now unchecked shuffle/ by song in the controls, closed itunes, reopened and there it is again. So not on reboot, every time I close and reopen Itunes. No, the crossed arrows are not highlighted when this happens.

Shuffle by song?  Where are you seeing this at exactly?

Top left menu in Itunes:

Controls/Shuffle/turn on shuffle/by songs

I uncheck, close Itunes, open Itunes, it is checked again.

That doesn't mean Shuffle is enabled.  Mine says the same thing under Control -> Shuffle. But if you look it also says Turn Shuffle On under the Shuffle subcategory.  So that means shuffle is off.

The reason I started looking for a solution in the first place is that it was shuffling. I really dislike the feature. I like to hear the songs on order of the cd. Regardless what it says, wether it says it is off or not, it is not playing the songs in the order listed. It is definitely shuffling.

So when you do go to Controls -> Shuffle was does it say about the different types of options such as Artists, Songs, etc.?

Are the tracks listed in the desired order in your main iTunes library?

under: Controls/Shuffle/Turn on shuffle/by songs, by albums, by groupings with a box to check before each. I open up itunes and  "by song" is always checked. When I uncheck "by song" the shuffling stops. I can uncheck the box, close Itunes and when I reopen, the box is checked again.

The tracks are listed as they are on the cd's in my main itunes library.

Again this is always the case for me as well, so I'm not quite sure we need to be concerned about that yet.

So you are positive the Shuffle icon is not highlighted blue as can be seen on the photo in this link?

I Have the same problem with my iTunes on my iphone

any time I open my iTunes it starts shuffling my musics

imagine I have 3 books on my list so I listen to a chapter of a book n then music start or it jumps the another chapter of another book !!!!

my understanding is that shuffing should be a CHOICE not a default option

please anyone tel how can I fix this cause it's seriously frustrating

It's amazing what kind of answers you get here... "Oh your shuffle is not on"... don't you think you will know your shuffle is on when songs play randomly.  Who are these people?  Are they paid to irritate on this site?

It's 2017 and I'm having the same issue.  When I restart my computer for any reason and open iTunes and select play on my keyboard, iTunes starts playing my library in shuffle mode, even though I'm looking at the last playlist that I was listening to when I restarted the computer.  Obviously, I want to actually play the list that I'm staring at and not my entire library in shuffle mode.  There seems to be no option to configure this.

I wonder if these irritations are done by Apple on purpose.  How could anyone be this ignorant and disconnected from reality.  If I'm looking at a playlist and press play, that's the playlist that I want to play!
