how to stop sleepimage file from rebuilding in ...
Since "upgrading" my 15" mid-2010 MacBook Pro, 4 GB memory + 2.4 GHz core i5 + 120 GB SSD, from 10.9.5 to 10.12.2, I can no longer permanently delete the /var/vm/sleepimage file (pmset -g lists this as the "hybernatefile"). I've change hibernatemode from 3 to 0, and it remains 0 as it always did with Mavericks. But after shutdown and restart, the sleepimage 2.0GB or so file is rebuilt. The disk space waste of this almost useless file annoys me. I've used Apple computers for decades (since the early '80s Apple IIe) and have never missed this feature when absent. Is there a way to PERMANENTLY delete the sleepimage file, so it never rebuilds, or must I suffer one more of many Apple macOS Sierra's annoying "upgrade features"? I'd appreciate any advice on this and can find little info via the web. Keith
In Terminal, type sudo rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage - my machine's on 10.12.5 and it worked for me.
