What is "MegaBackup"? How do I remove "MegaBack...

When doing a search I clicked on a image and had several pop ups changing my browser preference and opening up ads to purchase home furniture and such.  I corrected all my preferences as well as deleting the cookies and relevant history.  But two items showed up on my launchpad. "MegaBackup",  "Reset Search" and "MacKeeper" How do I get rid of them?

To get rid or Reset Search which is adware try running AdwareMedic https://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

You're living dangerously, you need to be more carfeul abou what you click on.

Also, when attempting to drag MegaBackup to the trash, it insists the program is still 'open' though I have closed it

Same here. MegaBackup says it's open regardless. It doesn't show up in "Force Quit."

Open Activity Monitor, find the MegABackup provess and kill it there.

This did work for me too!. Thank you! Are there any subfiles in Activity Monitor I can dump to clean things up in there?

Are you having a specific problem or are you just concerned about the number of running processes? Killing files in Activity Monitor can make your mac unstable if you stop something that you don't completely understand. There are always going to be a lot of processes running, perfectly normal.

Use Activity Monitor on your Mac - Apple Support

Ok I figured it out. You have to open the app. Then open the force quit page with "command, option, esc". Then force quit the app. After that go to applications and there you will be able to throw the app in the trash. You will then be asked to type in your password.

Thank you, thank you. I had been expecting a video from my marketing consultant and clicked on the Skype because I thought it was his video. Big mistake. Ended up with megabuck-up. Option command esc. worked like a charm. I put it in my passwords book just in case I do it again! Glad there are some very smart people to help me out there!

I fear megabackup will damage my computer if I try and erase.  when it prompted me to give my mac password I'm like,  I was dumb enough to click you to open once.  Twice ?  shame on me.  Do I really type in my password for my mac.com or for the ibook?  it is a different password.  Thank you.

Thanks for all your help so far.

I still have a challenge: I'm able to remove Megabackup through Activity Monitor, BUT I cannot remove "Megabackup Agent."  It won't go to the trash (it just floats back to the Activity Monitor window.  Consequently, it seems, I cannot move the Megabackup icon to the trash from the Applications folder.

Thank you!

SAME HERE. Even when i force quit then try to drag it to trash, it won't work. I have several other "applications" that appeared at the same time as this incredibly annoying MEGA BACKUP. No sure what to do next. I can't even see my screen for all the pop-ups.

HELP!

Same situation with those who cannot get rid of it following the suggested steps.  Any other solutions?

Thanks!!!!
