Bose QC35 Series 2 refusing to pairIv

Apologies for the off-topic question, but Bose support has, typically, been completely useless, and hoping someone here could help.

I have the aforementioned cans, a 2017 iPad Pro and a mini 4. The Pro is running 11.1 beta, and the mini 4 10.3.3. I’ve had the headphones for 10 days and, straight out of the box everything was fine, then Bose released a firmware update and that’s when the problem started (REALLY wish I’d not updated!).

I’ve done the usual troubleshooting, told the iPads to forget the headphones, re-paired them, cleared the device list in the Connect app (which was also recently updated and, in the last update Bose made the settings disappear! Cheers for that, Bose, very helpful ). Sometimes they’ll connect if I turn BT off, hard reset my iPads and go through the whole rigmarole again, but it’s ver much pot luck (before anyone says it could be because I’m running the beta on the Pro, it was happening when I was running 11).

The headphones were a significant birthday present to myself, because I’ve gone through so many cheaper sets with really crappy build quality (usually the cup material tears - looking at you, Philips M2 MKII BT -  and I’m meticulous about always putting them away when I’ve finished).

It it doesn’t matter if I’m trying to connect via the app, or via the iOS settings, it’s not a distance issue, as the iPad is always right next to the headphones.

If there is ANYONE out there who might have an idea (is it a problem with iOS…? If so, any solution?) please make themselves known, because Bose refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem. Oh someone suggested that it could be because I’ve aeroplane mode switched on, but I haven’t.

Any - and all - assistance very gratefully appreciated.
