New Retina Macbook keeps shutting down randomly.
I bought the new (Late 2013) 15-inch Retina Macbook Pro and recently it has started to shutdown randomly.
Before it shuts down, whatever is playing kind of stutters 3 or 4 times, like a broken CD and then the screen goes black and it shuts down.
Everything is up-to-date and am not doing anything intesive, just browsing the internet and listening to Spotify.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Should I bring it in to get checked? Everyting works perfectly until this happens.
Here are my specs in case they come in useful.
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1024 MB
Software OS X 10.9 (13A3017)
If the machine is new and shutting down on it's own, then you should definitely take it back to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on the machine.
You simply can't ask for anything but perfection from a new machine.

Having the same issues here, though mine is a non-retina 13-inch.
I am having the same problem on a new 15" retina. If anyone gets a fix please let us know.
And I have the same problem too - I hope Apple is going to attned the problem soon have payed 4000 usd for a computer that unexpectedly suhts down... And today it was horrible, happende 5-7 times during an hour!!!!
I'm still having this issue. For this amount of money, I'd have expected a fix yesterday.
Im having exactly the same issue for a half year now. Two weeks after i bought my MBP late 2013 this happened for the first time. After another two weeks, I had an appointment at the genius bar where they ran their diagnostics program and found nothing. After the test the genius completely erased my mac and installed maverics again. But at the same day it started flickering again and restarted! This happens sometimes ten times an hour!
The crash report mostly says that the launchd proces is responsible for the crash and in the console I can read some line which index on a kernel panic!
Reseting the P-RAM doesnt work and the EFI update is also up to date since i bought it.
I realy expect more of a thre and a half dollar machine!!!
I will make another appointment at the genius bar and hope they excange my macbook!

Hi,
I'm also facing the same problem .. my Mac book is "Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013"
Processor : 2.7 GHz intel core i7
Memory : 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Version: OSX 10.9.3
if anyone has any idea to how to fix this issue please share
I'm also having exact this same problem. Were you able to get a fix for this? My model is also same as yours.
I've SOLVED THIS by resetting the SMC and PRAM on my MBP with the same model

This was happening to my 17". I noticed it only happened when Spotify was open. I removed it from my MacBook about a week ago. So far no random restarts.
I have the exact same MacBook Pro, but it's a year and a few months old. Having the exact same issue as well. It shut's down randomly, usually when I'm not connected to power and the battery is at 40-60%. Screen will go black for 2-3 seconds then it automatically restarts and works fine, until it restarts itself again. Totally baffling and totally frustrating, as all the recommended solutions have not solved the problem. Happens 3-5x's per day. I've reset the PRAM and the SMC, as well as, run the Apple Hardware Test (nothing found), but still does it. Also have the latest OS El Capitan, MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013). Of course, my Applecare warranty expired 2 weeks before I started having the issue. A Mac should last a good couple of years without issues (especially for what they cost), and Apple does not seem to acknowledge this issue at all? Another strange thing, is the chassis also has a charge. I can literally feel electricity running through my body when it's on my lap. Strange. Also, as an FYI, my computer is in very good shape and is pampered, so I know, being that's it's ONLY a year old, it's in good shape. COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED....

The screen flickers 4-6 times then it goes black, and shuts down. I've read on other forums that this is a pretty consistent issue with this model, yet Apple has done nothing to address it. Apparently, it's a chassis design flaw. Apple should really have a recall of this model. I paid over $1600.00 for my MBP, and it should be operable for more than two years without issue. I've also read that this issue is caused by everything from a faulty fan solder to a pinched cable in the chassis design. Completely frustrated...

I have the same exact issue as well. My MacBook Pro started to shutdown randomly. I'm even concerned I may not able to complete this post. I have lost a great deal of work while in grad school and working on important projects. This is extremely frustrating.
I have listed my model below. Has Apple done anything to address? My technical and service coverage recently expired. Hopefully, they can still address. This sounds like an issue that is known be Apple and I have been with the company for so long and with so many products, so I want to believe they will do the right thing and correct. I just need my MacBook pro to work. I don't want anything extra - just fix this known issue that has frustrated so many users and lost hours of work for customers.
