Extending Wifi network Ethernet or no?

I have a new house that has more space than my previous one.  I bought an ASUS AT-RC3100 because of the additional power but it has been nothing but problems keeping my Sonos and HP printer connected.  I finally gave up on it.

So I hooked up my 2TB Airport Extreme Time Capsule and then added an old Airport Extreme at the other end of the house.   I have it connected to the TC with Ethernet running through a switch.  So my Comcast modem is in bridge mode and the Cat 5 runs from that, upstairs to the TC and then back down to the switch.

When I added the Airport Extreme, I added it by clicking "other wireless devices" in the Airport utility and it's all working good.  I want to add and Airport Express in the pool house that will also be connected via Ethernet to the switch. 

So I'm thinking that it is repeating the wireless signal and not acting like a separate hot spot.  In other words, is there a need to connect via Ethernet or is connecting wirelessly the better way.

Sorry I only have an elementary knowledge of networking so I hope this makes sense.

You will be "extending" your Wi-Fi network when these base stations are connected by Ethernet. This method is known as a roaming type network and is very commonly used in business/educational environments where you need to have greater coverage, but without the bandwidth performance loss of an extended network that use all wireless connections between wireless access points.

With a roaming network your base stations will NOT be repeating the signal. Instead each will broadcast their own Wi-Fi ... BUT, all of them would be configured to use the same network name and wireless security type & password. So wireless clients will "see" them as "one" network and portable clients will be able to roam between them freely and still on the "same" network.
