How to manually organise a photo folder... HELP

Hi.. I shoot with two cameras, and following shoot use LR to edit.. I then save the PDF to a folder, which likes to keep them in a weird, out of sync order...

I appreciate/HOPE this is a simple question for someone... But is there anyway i can manually move the order of the pictures within the folder? - So then they can be transferred to the client in a suitable order upon opening!

- The standard 'sort by' lists don't seem to fix my issue..

Many thanks in advance, Darren.

This does not involve the Photos for Mac application where you posted - What version of the oS do you have?

Larry is right that this is not really a question pertaining to the Photos app.  However, assuming that you are talking about a photos folder on your desktop, open the folder, select View/Arrange by Name, and then assign a 1, 2, 3, etc. in front of each photos name in the order that you want it displayed, and they will be arranged by the numerical designation.  You could also use A,B,C,D etc.  At least, that's the way it works for the Sierra OS.  You didn't mention what OS you are using.

Sorry, i'm a first time user :/ I'm on Seirra (i believe)..

I mean, i have like 450 pictures here :/ haha... When i save them from LR into the folder (having edited them) on my desktop, why don't they just save in that order?

Rich... help me... You're my man, i can feel it haha.. THANKS!!!!!

I wish I could help.  As far as I know, that's just the way it works on Sierra.  You might try posting your question on the Sierra forum at this link:

macOS Sierra

However, in the Photos app you might try creating an album (File/Create Album) and putting your photos into it.  You can manually sort them there.  Then select about 10 of the photos as a batch (including photos that you have changed the order of) and File/Export them to a folder on your desktop.  See if the order is preserved when you view them as icons (View/As Icons) in the folder.

Other than that I am out of suggestions.

Good luck with this.

Me and technology... We don't get on haha... Thanks for you help mate

When i save them from LR into the folder

Again that does not involve the Photos for Mac application - It is an OS question or a LR question one - now that you have identified your OS I will request your question be moved to the Sierra forum and for LR operation questions use the Adobe LightRoom support forums

Then select about 10 of the photos as a batch (including photos that you have changed the order of) and File/Export them to a folder on your desktop.  See if the order is preserved when you view them as icons (View/As Icons) in the folder.

That will not work - files have no order, the order is only supplied by the viewing program (the finder in this case)

The only way to do this that I know of is to name the files so that a sort by name in the finder gives you what you want as someone suggested earlier - the program writing the files has zero control over the order the viewer chooses to view them
