Prompted to restart for updates, but no updates...

I have an Air running the latest version of OS Sierra. There was a double update 3 days ago and I often postpone the updates so I can finish my work/my computer is not plugged in.   When I received the notice to restart to update my computer, it looked legit (and it's always possible that I am due for a re-start so I didn't think it through), but nothing happened. When I looked in the App Store, it said that everything is updated. I ran Malware Bytes and I'm clean, so I can't figure out what happened. As an aside, I just looked at my console and it looked like there were multiple errors with a Google update- so maybe it was a google chrome prompt to update? Could it be malware or a virus, or is it more likely a system error? Thanks!

It might have been an error of not knowing what files were on the computer.
