Unlock Mac with Apple Watch stopped working.
After about two weeks of working correctly, suddenly, the 'Unlock with Apple Watch' on my Mac stopped working.
The exact actions are:
- I hit the space bar to get the login screen.
- The screen displays 'Unlocking with Apple Watch...' for a few seconds as though it's trying to communicate with the watch.
- Then it quits trying to unlock with the Apple Watch and displays the password field to enter the password.
- I enter the password and successfully log in.
The watch is unlocked. in fact, I ran the test with the watch being locked and the computer displays the message that the watch needs to be unlocked first. I unlock the watch, try again and get the same result as listed above. It's able to connect to the watch, just won't unlock the screen.
Again, this is after it has been working successfully for two weeks. I can't imagine what has changed with the system where it no longer responds correctly.
Anyone else having this issue, know the cause, and/or know how to resolve?
Running system:
macOS 10.12 (16A323) on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
watchOS 3.0 on Watch 42mm Case - Aluminum

Boom!
That did it. Thank you!
Wait we're not done. What happens if you turn Bluetooth back on? Does it stop working again or does it continue working?
It keeps working.
Thank you again for your help.
I tried to turn off bluetooth on my iPhone and still no joy.......... as noted in the original cry for help I have exactly the same equipment as the original requestor and it was working.......now it isn't. I also have an iMac 5K and the unlock works fine on it now but it didn't a while ago. I love the feature when its working but this has been very frustrating. One other difference from the original requestor is that I am running the latest beta on the IOS and MacOS devices. Watch is still 3.0.
I followed one blog's suggestion and restarted iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac (I have the iMac). I made sure my wifi connection was on same channel between Mac and phone, and unlock with Watch started working again.
I have done all the resets and restarts but I have to admit that I do not know how to determine the "channel between the mac and the iPhone". I think there is some logic that makes sense to what you have suggested. I just don't know how to do that..........I guess I could google it....... and thanks for the reply.......it is appreciated.
First off, I said same as Mac and phone. Sorry, I meant Mac and Watch. I guess 'band' would be better to use than channel. My Comcast WiFi has both 2.4 and 5, and I also have an Airport Express that I can connect to. Not sure if this is accurate, but it hasn't worked in the past if my Mac is on 5 and my Watch is on 2.4, for example. If you have multiple options for WiFi connectivity, click on the WiFi icon on the Mac menu bar to see which one your Mac is on. Your Watch should be on 2.4 band since it doesn't support the 5.
Maybe this article will help, too...

I have the same problem as bjgreenberg. I followed your advise to turn off bluetooth on my phone and when I did my watch could unlock my Mac. After I turn my phone's bluetooth back on my watch fails to unlock my Mac as before. It kind of sounded like you were expecting this to happen. Are you aware of a way to make it work in this case?
Strange. If I turn OFF bluetooth on my iPhone, unlocking with Apple Watch works perfect. With bluetooth ON, however, unlock doesn't work. Both phone and iMac are on the same Wi-Fi network, and otherwise bluetooth is working fine on the phone and iMac. I've rebooted all three (phone, watch and iMac) devices multiple times, and the end result is always the same. With bluetooth ON, it unlock with Apple Watch doesn't work.
Ideas, anyone?
I did get mine working again. I tried the things Richard Buday mentioned and nothing changed for me either. Then I noticed something was messed up with the iCloud settings on my iPhone. I was logged in, but it wouldn't show me my account details. I tried logging out of iCloud and removing the iPhone from my trusted devices. I did this last part logged into iCloud using Safari on my Mac, but you might also be able to do it in the iCloud preferences panel in System Preferences on your Mac. Then I logged into my iCloud account on my phone and once that was working I was able see account details on my phone again and I was able to configure my Mac to unlock with my watch again.
I hope that helps you too.
There is a recent update that corrects apple watch unlock issues (10.12.1)
Unfortunately, OSX 10.12.1 and the most recent updates to iOS and Apple Watch haven't fixed this.
What exactly are you seeing?
