iMessage "An error occurred during activation. ...

My iMessage registration says "An error occurred during activation. Try again." So this just recently happened around 5 hours ago, this is so annoying! I already tried the google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) , I already tried the time "Automatically ON", & i have already tried restoring my iPod 4th Gen running 5.1.1 & Yes before this happened i was messaging "eligible" iMessage accounts. Please any help?

This is annoying, becuase my facetime is working fine & the iMessage ain't working. At first i thought the servers were down but then i asked my brother & his was working perfectly. Is it possible for your ipod to be banned from it or something?

same here...and its really annoying! i tried sending pictures to my friend through iMessage, it would load until 90-95% then it woud stop and stay there so i tried turning on and off my iMessage but when i tried to log on again...it wouldn't let me on...it just kept saying "An error occured during activation. Try again."

Same problem here (Philippines), but my ipad imessage is working fine... The imessage of my fiance is working fine too... I don't know what's happening.. When i type my imessage password, it just shows "an error occured during activation Try again"

i guess ill just go & reboot my ipod to factory settings since Apple is of no help

I did it already (3x) and its still the same, please let us know if it will solve yours

I just got a ipod touch 4g today, and haven't been able to connect imessages or facetime. I've tried all the tricks, and none of them works.

Any suggestions?

I already restored it, made a new Apple-id, changed my password, & evertything i could think of! Nothing worked! apple really needs to fix this, i've been reading this & there's alot of people with the same problem. I'mma try to call apple today & see i'll how it goes.

I have just bought my son the ipod touch and gave it to him today for his birthday - have tried all options listed on blogs to get facetime and imessage working but to no avail.

Any help would be great.

Options tried:

DNS changed to 8.8.8.8

restart

reboot

power off

new apple id

Based in Switzerland so not sure if that causes an issue but only using WIFI so should be fine.

Mine is the same (UK), really getting frustrated now. I know it can't be helped, but im too persistant to leave it, haha! Tried all of the above and still no luck Suppose ill just have to sit n' wait.

Same problem in Canada.  Tried all suggestions on forums to no resolution.

Also, when in the activation screen, and with repeated failed attempts, trying to click on the new "Create New Account" also fails...

Ditto here - cant use current AppleID or a new one - iMessage still doesn't work. We also have a similar problem with FaceTime.

This started this morning on my sons iPod. Other iDevices in the house work with iMessage etc. I have tried resetting the iPod, restoring it from backup (which also failed, stupid iCloud - what is the point of having a backup system which fails to restore backups?!!)

Other parts of the iPod which use the AppleID (such as iTunes) work ok, just not iMessage or FaceTime. Does anyone have any ideas?
