Bash process causing high, constant CPU load

After a recent update (currently on macOS Sierra 10.12.6) I have noticed that a bash process is running constantly, even with all applications shut down.

It is taking a constant % CPU of around 67 in the activity monitor and of course causing the fan to run all the time.

Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing this?

I am running a virtual machine with VirtualBox and Vagrant on the Mac, but a suspending it has no influence on the bash process.

bash is the default shell used when invoking Terminal to run Unix-like commands.

The script you show explicitly invokes it, and runs htop.  What is that script?

Hi Grant,

Thx for your reply. The bash process is present even when I'm not using the terminal, I was just invoking htop to show the process list.

I have no custom scripts running in the background if this is what you are suggesting.

EDIT: After rebooting the process is gone. Will update if it pops back up.
