iTunes upgrade 12.6 crashes immediately.

Just updated to iTunes 12.6.1

It just crashes. Won't open at all. I use Bose wireless headphones, so I tried turning those off. No difference.

I have never liked how it forces me to use iTunes when I switch on my wireless, noise canceling Bose headphones. But now iTunes won't work at all no matter what.

Using Mac OS 10.9.5 (it supposed to work with that version)

Mac Pro Late 2013

32 GB Ram

3.5 GHZ 6 core Intel Xeon E5

Thanks Steve,

I can't check if your solution works since I moved on and updated the OS. Once I did that everything worked fine.

Appreciate the help!

Post a copy of the crash dump here.

Hi Allen,

I can't post it because it says it has "illegal characters". Sorry for the newbie question, but even if I tried to paste into a text file, zip it and then attach, it won't send, so what would you recommend?

iTunes cannot be opened because of a problem.

Check with the developer to make sure iTunes works with this version of macOS. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and macOS.

Allan,

I can can get the top part. I see Whiteliner posted his issue. Maybe that helps?

Hello,

I was able to solve this.  For some reason, the iPodUpdater file was not correct and had a "backup" version.

Here's how I solved it, note that this may not work for you, please use at your own risk:

-Within the Applications folder, CMD-click the iTunes application.  This will show it in Finder.

-Right-click on iTunes and select "Show Package Contents".

-Expand Contents->Frameworks->iPodUpdater.framework->Versions->A.

-Within there, if there is an iPodUpdater.bak file, continue.  If not, then these instructions will not work for you and you can stop here.

-Click once on the iPodUpdater file and rename it to iPodUpdater.now.

-Click once on the iPodUpdater.bak file and rename it to iPodUpdater.  You'll likely be prompted to authenticate because this takes admin privileges.

You should be able to open iTunes as normal now.  I have no idea what causes the issue, but that worked for me.

Steve

Thanks Steve,

Thanks, Steve.  That fixed the issue for me.  I appreciate it.

THANK YOU Steve. This fixed my problem with iTunes not opening. I really appreciate your help.

Hi. I tried what Steve suggested after getting this error message. iTunes just wouldn't open.

Check with the developer to make sure iTunes works with this version of macOS. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and macOS.

However Steve's solution worked for me. Thanks Steve.
