how to reset my whole macbook pro

I've been given my mums laptop and I'm trying to wipe everything off the laptop so i can reset it in order to make it my laptop and use my apple id and so on. I've noticed there is no reset button so i tried to first log out of her iCloud through apple id user and password and it comes up with all the stuff to delete then it gets to delete keychain and i have to enter the password and i do that and its fine but then it goes away and doesn't log me out of anything. theres me thinking this would be simple but it seems far from. please someone help, i don't want to call an 0800 number in order to do something which should be easy and obvious and i can't even seem to be able to find the answer by looking it up on google.
