my ipad is stuck with itunes and cable logo and...

I updated itunes on my pc and while ipad was connected and the ipad is frozen with the itunes logo and the plug icon but cannot restore or recover. have tried reset etc but still apple logo comes up and then goes back to itunes logo and the plug icon only. how do I get it to totally restore the ipad or do a cold boot. the new update of itunes on my pc works with my iphone 4 but will not restore this ipad mini. what do I do now.
