why do I need to unplug usb

Intermittently my brand new Macbook Pro is failing to recognize that the charger is plugged in.  I have to unplug it (from the Mac), and then plug it back in to get it to charge.  Why, oh why, did they not include the MagSafe?

If that doesn't help, you may have a hardware issue with your MBP. I would bring the Mac, and power adapter and packaging and proof of purchase to an Apple Store “genius” bar for a free diagnosis: https://support.apple.com/contact If it's found to be defective, and you're within 14 days of purchase, I would get a refund/exchange. If it's beyond that, you'll need to get it repaired. Either way, make sure you're backed up before you go.
