I have a macbook pro 2012, bought power cable M...

I have a macbook pro mid 2012, bought power cable MD506LL/A  But APPLE recommends MC97xx/A. Otherwise looks just like the kind I need.Model Numbers also differ. Apple recommends A1398 --the cable I just purchased is Model Number A1424. Are these meaningful differences?  Or, must I return it for another cable?

I would get the correct one.

Model numbers and Part numbers are not easy for Readers to decode. The first two numbers you posted appear to be Model numbers, the third number appears to be a Part number.

What are the verbal descriptions of these items?

how are they different from each other?
