Replaced MacBook Air 2011 13" Battery, Capacity...

Hi,

I bought a used 13" 2011 MacBook Air with 45% original capacity left.  Visiting Hanoi, Vietnam this past week, I decided to install a new battery.  They ordered one from Saigon and I inspected it, and it looked good.  Serial number on the battery is what it should be and build quality looked identical.  It also had a seal over one of the screw holes that had not been broken so I assume it's never been installed.

Upon installing it (I did it myself in their shop), total capacity was at 100%, which was great.  I then did the calibration recommended everywhere online.

1. Charge fully after light turns green for an additional 2 hrs

2. Drain battery completely, then let it rest, turned off, for at least 5 hours.

3. Recharge it fully

After doing that, the total capacity jumps all over the place. For days it was 1% and it would turn off immediately upon unplugging.  Then it jumped up to 80ish %. Now it hovers between 15% and 35%.  Just now, it was 50% charged and then I got the low battery notification and it turned off.

The actual usable time varies from minutes to a few hours, which doesn't match up with the displayed info.

The software I use to see the info are Monity, Coconut, Battery Health, and OSX's normal system information.  They all give me the same information as it changes.

The age of the battery itself is 4.8 years.

I would like to know:

1. If I bought another battery (at a legit apple location), are they still manufacturing them?  Would it actually be new?

2. Are there any steps which I haven't taken that I should?

3. Anyone else here had this problem?

I'm thinking that I should try removing and re-inserting the battery, but I don't have access to the 2 needed screwdrivers where I am currently.  I'm also thinking that it's possibly a fake battery.  I'm currently on my way to Saigon and am hoping to get my hands on some tools.

Thoughts?  Thanks in advance!
