Time signature chaos in Logic Pro X v.10.3.2

I'm using Logic Pro X v.10.3.2.

I am an unschooled musician, and not a music editor/mixer but of course now I have to be in order to use this software. If you answer, please assume I do not know ANYTHING about logic pro x. Thanks.

I selected a region of a song I am recording and used the command Cut/Insert Time>Cut section between locators to copy or move (doesn't matter which) a section to another part of the song and pasted it in.

When inserting or pasting you get a pop-up asking "Do you want to add a (for example 196/4) signature change to preserve subsequent time signatures?" and then you can choose Don't or Add. (Even though the time signature is 6/8 for the entire song, for some reason I am asked this question...)

I had no idea, but figured that "preserving subsequent time signatures" was probably a good idea, so I think I selected Add, although at some point I started selecting Don't. (I think I changed my preference because of the problem that developed, explained below, but I am not sure. Can anyone tell me if choosing Add or Don't could create/avoid this problem?) Anyway, the result is that the vertical lines in the recording area (representing bars? I don't really know what a bar is...) get all messed up. Now I have huge gaps between them at certain places where I have cut/inserted sections of my song.

This has not really had any practical impact on playback but when recording, I have a problem: let's say I set the playhead somewhere and then hit the Record command. Normally the playhead would jump back a bit, and I guess it jumped back to the beginning of the previous bar or space marked off by two vertical lines. So now when I hit record, instead of moving back just a little bit and giving me a nice lead-in time before I need to start playing, the playhead jumps way back so that I have to sit and wait for 30 seconds or so (some of these "bars" are now very long!) before the playhead catches up to where I need to start playing.

I want to have those lines or bars go back to the way they were. How can I do it?
