icloud email keeps asking for password in outlo...

I set up icloud for windows and outlook 2016.  My icloud calendars are working.  The only problem is the .me email is always asking for the password.

Questions:

1.  Doesn't the icloud for windows client set this up automatically?

2.  Is my email password the same as my apple ID?

Thanks.

If you are using Two-Factor Authentication, then you need to sign in to your Apple ID on a computer: Apple - My Apple ID, and in the Security section you will see "App-specific Passwords" with a link to "Generate Password". Click on that to generate an App-specific password for Outlook (that's what I would name it). Then copy and paste that password into a Note or secure document, so that you can copy and paste it into the password field the next time you are asked for it.

Once you sign in with the App-specific password, you should be all set. This is a protection to ensure that you and only you are giving permission for your Outlook app to access your iCloud data. Since it can't use the "Verification Code" layer like your Apple apps can, the App-specific password serves to create that extra layer:

I would highly recommend that you don't even consider turning off Two-Factor. Without it, you are not protecting your Apple/iCloud information from the hackers that seem intent on stealing it whenever they have an opportunity.

Hi, hope this helps to someone since I took weeks on discover how to fix this.

I configure in Outlook following the apple support steps my icloud account, but it kept requesting me my password even though it was correct.

The problem was in icloud, what I did is:

1) Go to Mange my Icloud account

2) Go to Security

3) Eliminate the "Double Factor authentication" and change it for the "Q&A verification"

Then I went into my outlook 2016 and I re-enter my password and it started working.

Hope this helps to some one else.

rayito23 - the steps you took to get around the issue is only going to make your Apple/iCloud account more vulnerable. I would suggest that you read the post I provided, and turn Two-Factor Authentication back on. You are leaving yourself wide-open. Especially since you are using a 3rd party app that is accessing your iCloud information.

There is an easy solution to the issue you ran into. I would strongly suggest that you use that one.

Best of luck,

Thanks for the help on this, what gets me though, is why do we have to search the internet to find the answer. Microsoft and Apple should be able to advise this when you buy the product as they know it's for a Mac. Come on

Oh by the way. it worked a treat!! Cheers

gmail from maine is spot on with this answer, I just added for the confused people "using your web browser"

If you are using Two-Factor Authentication, then you need to sign in to your Apple ID on a computer using your web Browser: Apple - My Apple ID, and in the Security section you will see "App-specific Passwords" with a link to "Generate Password". Then copy and paste that password into a Note or secure document, so that you can copy and paste it into the password field the next time you are asked for it.

I am using two step verification and generating password for outlook when I come back to Outlook after some time I have to generate a password again, This is happening on my iPad Macintosh Android phone, so for some reason it is not keeping the password it logs me out any time I leave it. There is some issue between two step verification and Microsoft exchange

Well, this has to do with Apple ID security, and there are support articles on Two-Factor Authentication. I also know that Apple sent out emails some time before the (I think it was June 15th date), letting at least some population of third party app users that they would need to go to Two-Factor by that date. There was a link in that email to the support article.

This tightening of security and adding levels of complexity for outside apps that use your iCloud account are designed to protect your account and your privacy.

Not sure why you would be getting logged out of your email account every time you close the app. Have you contacted Microsoft to see if there is some setting that causes that to happen?

And are you using Two-Step or Two-Factor? There's a difference.

As far as the App-specific password, you can copy and paste it to a secure place, and re-use it to sign back in to that same app.
