Genius bar is stumped

I have MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014); 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7;  16 GB 1600 Mhz DDRE; 251GB SSD; 113 GB Free ; 20 GB used by my photos.  When I bought this MBP, new from Apple, they transferred my iPhotos (~6500 then and ~7200 now) from old MBP with its exploded battery, to this MBP. 

Why do my photos, received from family  iPhones to my MBP Mail (Yosemite 10.10.5), fail to export to Photos. Some go to Pictures and become mixed with all sorts of non- photo stuff.  Spent about 2 hours at Apple store today.  They examined my MBP thoroughly.  Wanted me to upgrade to new OS X.  I said, NO!  So they reinstalled the full Yosemite suite from the Apple network.  There was no improvement or change to the problem.  They will study problem.  We meet again 10/27. A four step save and drag can get photos from Mail to Photos-one at a time. Give me back My iPhoto!
