Why does the following message keep appearing?

Why does the following message keep appearing? "This MAC cannot connect to iCloud because of a problem with your email address. Open iCloud preferences to fix this problem" I have signed into iCloud, reset password, entered verification codes, my email address is correct but still the messages pop up on MACBook Pro? Calendars are not talking to each other between my iphone & MAC laptop that is all. I mainly use my iphone for everything these days.

It's so annoying seeing this all the time. Any advise greatly appreciated?

Where is iCloud preferences? I have Systems preferences? Thank you

I clicked on the tab iCloud preferences, which asked me to sign in and add verification code after that there has been no iCloud preferences tab.
