No text tone sounds from Iphone when paired wit...

Since I paired my Apple Watch with my Iphone, I get taptic and sound on my watch, but I don't get any text tones from my Iphone anymore. I have assigned text tones to my GF, brother, etc. I used to be able to hear their specific text tone on my phone and know it was them texting without having to look at the phone. Now the Iphone doesn't make a text tone sound at all, however the watch will still buzz and make a sound when a text comes through. Anyone know how I can get both text tones back on my Iphone while still keeping taptic and sound on my watch? Thanks.

This is by design, and at this point there is no way to change a setting to accomplish it. I don't like it either, and I suggest you submit feedback at https://apple.com/feedback/watch.html.

Thanks for the reply. That really limits the watch considerably. I keep my phone when I'm working on patients in my office about 20 feet away and can hear the text tones from it. Was hoping to still hear it and know who was texting so I can determine if I wanted to look at the message or not on my watch while away from my phone. I will submit it to the feedback for sure.

Exactly, and another reason this would be useful is that the watch just plays that "chime" regardless of who is texting, whereas on my iPhone, I have custom tones for each contact so I know who's texting without looking at anything.

I don't think it is by design. I am having the same problem which lead me to this thread - however, my wife still gets text tone alerts on her iphone when paired to her watch.

The determining factor isn't whether the watch is paired to the phone (the watch is going to be paired with the phone most of the time) but whether or not the phone is locked.  If the phone is unlocked, you'll get the notifications on the phone. If the phone is locked, the notifications will go to the watch.

Ahhh - indeed.

Thanks!

Yep I submitted feedback on this. Not apple's greatest idea here. I like both devices to alert, not just the watch. Plus I have many custom tones setup which are now for the most part useless. If I didn't want to hear my phone I'd just put it on silent. We really should have a choice on how this works.

I thought I was going mad until I found this thread.  It took me forever to find the CAUSE of what seemed to be random text tones...  I finally nailed it down, then found this thread.  I have just submitted feedback to Apple and hope that eventually enough people do so to cause them to make a change in the settings.  Thank you Meg St Clair and Steve Jobs fan!  You are very helpful

Has this problem been fixed yet? I just got a Watch a few days ago and I'm SUPER disappointed about this. I either need to hear the text tone on my phone or the Watch needs to play the same tones as my phone does. I would prefer for both to make a noise though. Also, sometimes I would like to make the watch silent and have my phone on loud so that I'm not drawing attention to my Watch when I'm with people. I just need some options.

It has not been "fixed" because it is not a problem, it works that way by design. If you want to leave feedback to Apple, the link has been posted in this thread.

Actually, it is a problem by definition because it is something that people do not like and would like it to be addressed. And I already submitted feedback before I replied on here because I read through all the comments first. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something since the latest post was in August.

The watch is working as Apple designed it to work. Apple may not agree with you that it's a problem to be fixed. And they are under no obligation to do so. Apple is well known for providing the interface they've decided people should be using rather than the one people ask for. It means that Apple products aren't for everyone. Personally, I like the way it works.

That's fine that some people like it. I would personally like more than one option.

My point was that Apple isn't big on giving lots of options. But, you've submitted your feedback and all you can do now is hope.
