iTunes on Windows 10 freezing issue

I saved my iTunes library on a thumb drive back when I had Windows 8.1. I have used it successfully in the past to transfer music files. I now have Windows 10 and when I upload from the thumb drive it transfers the music folder but iTunes freezes.  All the albums in my folder show in a shade of pink and it won't play. I have tried downloading a new iTunes and the same thing happens. What's going on? Incompatibility issue? Or? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hello Blenderdrink,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities and asking about iTunes on your PC freezing. I am happy to check this out with you.

If iTunes works normally while trying to access a locally saved song and not trying to access music from the thumb drive or with the music folder transferred from the thumb drive, then there must be some issue with the files or folder on the thumb drive, or the drive itself.

If iTunes is not working even with the locally saved music folder on your computer, I recommend going through all the steps provided in this help article: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues in iTunes for Windows. It looks quite involved, but it is actually quite easy once you get going through the steps. This will solve the issue, or at least it will greatly isolate the cause by letting you know if iTunes works properly started in safe mode, or in a new user on your PC.

If iTunes works properly while it is started in safe mode, the article refers you to the troubleshooting steps provided in this other article: iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins.

If not, continue on and see if iTunes works in a different user on your PC. Once you finish that test, check the section of the article corresponding to the results of your testing titled "User-specific issues" or "System-wide issues".

Thanks again and have a wonderful day.
