Edited photos disappeared with iOS 11

After upgrade to iOS 11, my photos which were saved as edited (had modified size or added effects) disappeared from my phone. Before the upgrade, I activated (paid) icloud for photos, however, it seems that the photos disappeared from icloud as well. All photos should have been already in the icloud at the time of the upgrade. How is that possible? How can I get my photos back?
