NIGHT SHIFT issue on Mac Pro with 2 external mo...

Hi, I have issue with my Mac Pro (6,1/6c/16GB/D500/256GB) and two external monitors(1-PHILIPS BDM4065uc and 2-EIZO EV233W). The issue is that when I startup with only main monitor (1), there is no Night Shift (NS) switch in Preferences/Displays or in the Notification center, BUT the colors on the monitor are WARM! Even though I did not able NS and restart/power up from state where NS was turned off. But when I turn on second monitor(2), the NS switch magically show up in Notification Center AND in the Preferences/Displays/EV2333W window (but still not at PHL BDM4065). So I switch on nad off the NS to get normal (colder) colors on both monitors.

BUT when I turn off the second monitor(2) I get warm colors on my main monitor(1) back and the NS switch disappear!!!

note:

I definitelly don't want NS function at all. I'm working with videos and I don't need any color changes since I made color calibration on both monitors..

Have some of you experienced something familiar or does anybody work out any solution (terminal command for disabling NS etc.)..?

Thanks guys.

You should send Apple a bug report/feedback.

I had a similar recent problem on my Mac Pro (Late 2013). I have a 40" Crossover 4K monitor connected via Display port to Mac Pro. Worked fine on 10.12.3. After update to 10.12.4, Night Shift mode was enabled after restart, but no way to turn it off via Display control panel as Night Shift control tabs not shown. I reported problem to Apple via Chat support. They suggested doing a NVRAM reset, but that made no difference. I decided to revert back to 10.12.3 from a backup I had and told Apple I'd wait until next Mac OS 10.12.x release to see if fixed. They said OK and that's where it currently stands.

Good luck with getting your system working properly or finding override fix.

I have a similar issue. I have 2 4k monitors connected to my mbp and only one , the main one, goes along with shift mode the second just does not change at all colder or warmer it stays the same.

Hello,

issues with nightshift here as well. My main monitor (a 2000+ Euros Eizo ColorEdge) looks like it loses calibration.

I have to manually open nightshift panel and, with this wonderfully useless feature still disabled, move the slider to one side and then reposition it at the center. After that operation, my panel goes back to its normal color.

Even if I understand the uttermost importance of following the natural flow of time and match the subtle nuances of changing light during the day, there must be a way to totally disable those features we don't need, nor want.

A Mac fan for many, many, many years, lately I'm really disappointed. If I want an iPhone OS to play with, I have my iPhone already.

Sorry for the rant and have a great day.

Refer to "System requirements for Night Shift" in How to use Night Shift on your Mac - Apple Support. Your monitors are not supported.

They may not be supported, but it would be good for Night Shift to leave them alone...

I have the same issue - two (unsupported) extra monitors, one of which warms up overnight with night shift turned off in display panel. Neither of the other two change. To get back to calibrated colours requires night shift to be manually turned on and off. Glad to have found someone else with the issue as recalibrating each time a nightmare scenario!

Professional monitors are regularly calibrated using expensive software, hardware and work time. I don't care if they are not supported. I don't want them to be supported.

The fact you can't completely disable Nightshift is simple, pure and inconsiderate folly.

Refer to ISO 3664:2009 "Graphic technology and photography -- Viewing conditions" for more informations.

Thank you anyway for you advice.

About a dozen Macs here where I work. Really annoying, yes.

FWIW, it is possible Night Shift has a bug when one or more external monitors are used. I have it on a couple Macs but only with the internal display. Night Shift does not affect them when disabled.

You can send Apple a bug report from the feedback page.

https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

They most likely won't answer but they do read all reports.

Yep, me too. 3 4k displays connected to a Mac Pro 2013. The fix...drumroll...

Turn it on and off in the Notifications area. I have to do this each time I change resolution or wake my machine.

Again, toggle on and then back off in the Notifications above Do Not Disturb.

Clearly this is a bug and I have reported it.

Hi again,

I just updated to 10.12.5, but same problem as 10.12.4 exists. Apparently they still do not support my 3rd party monitor. Reverting back to 12.5.3 again. Hope fixed in 10.12.6!

Usually one can disable/enable these types of things via terminal, even if the preference is no available. Unfortunately, a quick google did not show that.

However, I did see this thread that outlines how to force "compatibility" with Night Shift so that you see the tab in System Preferences->Displays.

I realize you do not want your calibrated monitor to use Night Shift, but hopefully you can then set it to disabled (and it actually stays disabled).
