Playback of recordings from webcam stutters (Br...

Hi folks, I'm planning to start a youtube channel so I thought I'll record them with a Logitech Brio 4K Webcam for video as it does 1080p in 60fps. I have a late 2016 MacBook Pro w/ Touchbar (16GB RAM, 2.7GHz i7) running the latest Sierra 10.12.6.

The Brio is connected to the MacBook Pro via a USB-C to USB-C charge cable and the Yeti Pro microphone is connected via USB-A to a USB-C adapter made by Apple. I tried to connect it via the Hyperdrive thunderbolt 3 dock, record a video, stutters in places. Same with direct connection to the USB-C ports.

I tried various combinations to see which method provided a stuttered playback:

  • Brio & Yeti Pro
  • FaceTime HD & Yeti Pro
  • Brio microphone & Brio
  • FaceTime HD & Brio Microphone

Only recordings via the Brio (cam) and Yeti Pro combo stutters.

Any advice would be great as I want to kick off this new YouTube channel with the tools that I have. The recording software I'm using is QuickTime X Player as well.

I have more questions of course:

Do I need a Thunderbolt 3 cable?

Is there any way I can record in Quicktime with my iPhone 6s Plus plugged in (without the camera UI in the way)?

If I was to say record with my Yeti Pro for audio and the iPhone 6s Plus as the camera, is it easy enough to synchronise the audio via iMovie or would it be better to find a way to plug the Microphone directly in to the iPhone 6s without using a Lightning to USB cable (need that spare port for keeping it charged).

I'm sorry if I'm all over the shot with my questions and got so much written down, but it's been bugging me all morning during testing.
