iCloud Bandwidth on Windows 10

I have been using iCloud on Windows 10 for some time now without problems.

But, a few days ago, something seems to gone haywire and my internet bandwidth usage has gone through the roof.

On Saturday morning (April 22, 2017), I got a notification from Xfinity that I had used 90% of my data allocation for the month (Which is 1TB). 4 hours later, I got a notice that I had hit 100%. 4 hours later, I got a notice of 110%. And 4, hours after that, I got a notice it hit 125%. The simple math on that says in the space of less than a day, something consumed 360GB of bandwidth during hours when no one was streaming, asleep, or not home, and most devices were either not present or off.

Of course, I scrambled and ran virus checks on all the PC's with multiple tools (AVG and Malwarebytes). I also changed my wifi password thinking someone had possibly been using my wifi to stream NetFlix and whatnot without my permission.

I then went back to my personal computer, and looked at Task Manager in Windows 10. I then noticed that something was using a high % of my Network bandwidth. It turned out to be iCloud Drive using between 50 and 75mb of bandwidth consistently but yet appeared to be doing absolutely nothing.

I completely uninstalled iCloud from my PC and all the bandwidth usage and alerts from Xfinity stopped.

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this issue and if it's a known issue.

My searches on this topic find numerous results for iCloud on Mac OS, but I haven't really found anything related to iCloud on Windows.

Just a quick addendum. I mentioned this problem to a friend. Coincidentally he mentioned that he was also getting high bandwidth usage notices, every month, from Xfinity. I told him to check on iCloud on his PC to see what it's bandwidth usage was.

When he checked, he saw the same issue I had, but his iCloud Drive installation was using 150MB of bandwidth.

He also uninstalled iCoud and the bandwidth problems seem to have gone away.

This is also clearly a download issue as we both have equivalent internet connections of 250mb down / 10mb up.

Seems there is something wrong with iCloud Drive on windows. There's no reason it should be constantly eating bandwidth like this.

Had this same issue including bandwidth notice from isp. Must be contingent on something idiosyncratic about our setups otherewise this problem would come up more on a search. Running Windows 10 with icloud installed, according to glasswire, icloud used 900GB in the last month while nothing else used 5% of that. I use icloud only occasionally to transfer small files.

Still no fix? I was getting the same thing. Would slow my internet down to a crawl since it was using so much.
