Issues with renaming files in Preview by Clicki...

I’m having trouble consistently renaming PDF files in Preview App on macOS Sierra. when I click the title bar and try to rename the file, half the time it does not save my changes. Instead, it reverts back to the prior file name while giving a system error sound. this occurs when I use “Open PDF in Preview” then try to rename the file by clicking the titlebar. I’ve been implementing a very annoying workaround where I have to click the file menu “Rename” function, save and close the dialog box, then click the title bar to rename the file. This adds at least 2 extra steps to my workflow.

I don't get a dialogue box, so I can't do the workaround either.

Same problem here - although I don't get the error message. I found that simply renaming the file did nothing - i.e. it would revert to it's old name as you said. However, if I renamed AND moved the file at the same time (Desktop -> Documents, etc.), then the rename would stick!

Don't know why this works - the extra step is a pain. And to add to the confusion, my laptop (MBA) is running exactly the same software spec as my iMac, yet it works fine, i.e. I can rename in the title bar without having to move the file.

I even went to the trouble of reinstalling the software on my iMac, but no change.

This used to work flawlessly for me. My ScanSnap scanner pulls in documents as searchable PDFs and opens them in Preview with generic names with timestamps. I just click on it and change the name of the PDF based on the content. But as of today this has stopped working. The filename can be typed in but hitting enter does not actually change it in the open window or the file. Wonder if a recent update broke that very useful and powerful convenience.
