my mac makes a weird noise when i open it like ...

when i open it from sleep it makes this weird noise like a spaceship or an alien sound???

Open System Preferences > Sound then select  the Sound Effects tab.

Deselect:  Player user interface sound effects

Restart your Mac then put it to sleep then wake to test.

I have that same issue but when I do your suggestion, it turns off all the other sound effects. Is there a way to just turn off the opening sound? It never used to make that sound and then a couple days ago it just started all on its own. But I'd really like to keep the other user interface sound effects.

I have this same issue.  However, mine will also make the opening sound 3-5 times after I close it.  It's not consistent, and I don't know how to turn it off.

Ah figured it out! It's because of Messages. When you open Messages, there's something that says Jabber at the bottom left corner. Select "Offline" as your Jabber setting and the noise will stop!

That was it!!! Thanks so much!  That noise was driving me crazy.

YES!  This has been driving me crazy!  It just started out of nowhere about a month ago, I have no idea why.  Mine didn't say Jabber, it said AIM.  I marked it offline and the maddening sound disappeared.  Thank you!!
