My MacBook Pro is shutting down randomly

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 15", Mid 2014. 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM and 256 GB Storage. It's running Sierra 10.12.1.

My MacBook started shutting down randomly a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes a few days go by and nothing happens, and sometimes I've just logged in and it shut downs again after a minute or so. Also if I'm playing a game or watching Netflix for example, it doesn't happen.

I deleted the drive and reinstalled Sierra (I thought it might be software related) but it didn't help. I ran the Hardware Diagnostics and found no issues. I took the Mac to a certified repair shop to clean it and it didn't help either.

Every time it shuts down the screen goes black and the keyboard stays lit for a while. It's not crashing, it looks like a normal shut down. When I press the power button I can heard the boot sound and everything.

My battery has 750 cycles completed out of 1000, I wonder if that might be the problem. Sometimes it happens a lot more while on battery power and goes away if I connect it. But it still happens sometimes.

I read Bluetooth chip could be the problem, I've disabled bluetooth but it did not help.

I checked the system logs and identified the logs when it shut down 3 times in a row. This is a link to the logs:

I'll appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Try an SMC reset. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Thank you for your reply. I thought I had done this before, but I tried again following the instructions you sent and this time when I logged in the date was wrong (year 2040) so I think this time I did reset the SMC.

I'll wait a few days to check if the issue is resolved. Thanks again!

You're welcome.

Regarding date: did you have it set to auto-set date and time?

Hello,

It was in auto-set, after a few seconds when it loaded the OS and programs, it set the right date.

However the problem persists, even worst, it just happened 3 times while on AC power with the battery completely charged.

I'm looking for clues in the system.log in the Console but I'm not sure what I'm seeing, maybe my RAM is faulty?

Please check the log file, I will be registering the last 10 minutes of system.log after every shutdown if it helps. If I need to be looking into another log please let me know.

I appreciate your help a lot.

Let's hope not. RAM cannot be changed out, and it sounds like you're out of warranty. Run Apple Hardware Test and see what it turns up.

I ran the AHT twice (the first on battery power said the power brick couldn't be tested so I plugged it in and ran the test again). No issues found.

I also installed memtester and signed in in "Single User Mode" (I think that's what its called) pressing Cmd + S. I took a lot of time to check the 16 GBs of free memory (15600M) but everything seems to be ok.

I have no idea what's going on.

I think it's time for a trip to the Apple Store; make a free "genius" bar appointment, they can run more in-depth tests. If no Apple Store is close enough, try an AASP.

Did you find out what was the issue? I m also facing the same problem?
