Unplugged MacBook Pro crashes and resets clock

I have a mid-2012 13-inch MacBook Pro running Sierra.  I recently installed a third-party Ansanor replacement battery, along with some additional upgrades (I swapped the optical drive for a second SSD).

Since then, my machine crashes sporadically while unplugged, and each time I have to reset the date and time and accept a bunch of certificates for Calendar and Airmail (email program I use).  I tried to calibrate the battery by letting it run down to 0%, but instead of going into power save mode it just crashed.  Several times it has crashed while unplugged and asleep with the lid closed; when I restart it, the battery still appears to be charged.

I've reset SMC twice and the problem still happens occasionally; today it crashed while the battery was at 97% and the lid was closed.  Is this a case of a faulty battery, or could I have damaged something when I was swapping out the optical drive?

It will calibrate as you use it. There is never any need to run the battery down to near zero.

Deep discharge is the enemy of Lithium batteries. If you got a good battery originally, you are not likely to have one now.
