How to solve a mix that is too hot?

I've seen multiple things about this on the internet, but a definitive answer is hard find. My mix is too hot. There are many tracks and most are automated. Would turning the Stereo Output down a bit affect the sound quality? What is the best way to do this?

Hi there, you give us very little information for any sensible advice, but I'll give it a try:

By stating "My mix is to hot" you mean the master stereo out channel is in the red. For a quick solution I'd suggest to route the whole mix to VCA groups.

Then lower the VCA faders equally by an appropriate amount until you hit a point you desire on the meter scale. Something like that and I could go on for ages with giving all sorts of suggestions…….
