Smart Keyboard fails

Keyboard works fine mostly. Abruptly loses key input, reset brings it back. Is it a keyboard malfunction?

Hello 1blodg,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that your Smart Keyboard loses key input with your iPad Pro. I would suggest these steps from the Use your Smart Keyboard with iPad Pro support article:

Get help

If your iPad Pro doesn't detect your Smart Keyboard or you see an "Accessory not supported" alert on your iPad Pro, make sure there's no debris or plastic covering on the Smart Connector pins on the keyboard or the Smart Connector on the iPad Pro. Also, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard are in the Type position.
  2. Remove the Smart Keyboard from your iPad Pro.
  3. Restart your iPad Pro.
  4. Reconnect the Smart Keyboard.

Best regards.

Same issue, keyboard loses input ability. Exchanged for new keyboard, same problem. I'm suspecting the smart connector isn't smart enough. Bought pad online so return will be a hassle

Hi 1blodg,

At this point, you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action. Also if it becomes necessary, one of the direct contact resources could assist in a replacement.

Cheers.

Have you tried to disable Bluetooth? For me was an unexpected solution! (Ipad Pro 12.9" iOs 10.1.1

Hey everybody -- and I hope everybody sees this one - all of us who have had problems with the Smart Keyboard. I tried everything in the world to get it to work the right way with my Ipad Pro 12.9. Detaching, reaching, soft resets and factory reset. Then I started looking through different articles on the web. Apple insider, had an article

Apple offers free iPad Pro Smart Keyboard repairs in wake of 'functional issues'  -- May 8, 2017.

The article reads that Apple acknowledges there are functional issues with the keyboard -- and will replace the dysfunctional keyboard if it was purchased within the past 3 years; I purchased mine in November, 2015. I shared the article with the Techy at the Genius Bar; he looked up  the quality control program at Apple -- it is true. Right on the spot he replaced my keyboard - it comes with the 90 day warranty; got it today (8-22-17) and intend to use it to the "max" during the next 89 days (lol - but serious). The new keyboard is working just fine.  It took me about 20 minutes from the minute I started talking to the techy to the minute I walked out of the front door. Hope this helps someone. Rudy.
