Keyboard changing to symbols when using alt

So I was looking for an app that could make me copy text from my Macbook Pro 13' Retina 2014 to my android phone and I found this https://altcopy.net

It's pretty simple to use, I only need to have the app on the mac and on the phone and when I want to copy something I only need to use alt-c shortcut to do it.

The problem is, when I do it my keyboard completely change to some kind of symbols mode and I can´t change it back without restarting the computer.

I already tried to change the shortcut to other combinations and it only seems to result in some kind of incapacity to my keyboard, if not a symbol mode, a mode where I can't even type.
