my ipad 2 has a black screen

I have an ipad 2 and the screen is blacked out. There's still a back light but no picture. I tried looking up this problem some people said restore and some people said try tapping the corner by the audio jack. I've done both these things and still nothing. is there a fix for this? will changing the lcd fix it. Please help. it's for a customer and I don't want to do anything unnecessary if it's not fixable

This worked for me too. Screen blank with just a dim glow. Home and power button pushed together did nothing, but the device was syncing ok to ITunes. A sharp tap on the top of the thigh, hitting on the back side under the home button did the job for me....I was getting very cross. Thanks for the good advice.

Tapping the back worked! I just started from the bottom in a Z all the way up...

This also worked for me -- but not perfectly. The screen came back but the display has a green tint and fuzzy lines. Clearly, there is a ribbon of some sort that comes loose in the iPad 2 which can be "fixed" by tapping it on the back, but I think this is only a temporary solution. I wonder if using it multiple times could damage it further. Admittedly, this is my second time dropping the ipad and using this trick to fix the screen. The first time it worked perfectly, and now less than perfectly.

Has anyone used this trick and continued using the iPad for weeks or months with no recurring problems?

My guess is that the LCD needs to come off and the loose ribbon needs to be firmly reattached. Apple will do this for a fee, but they often need to remove all your data, plus they send it out for repair. I'd use a reputable third-party storefront service. After all, it's probably just soldering a broken ribbon or something, not replacing parts.
